The City of Easton uses the EASTON ALERT platform for communicating important updates to our community. By subscribing to this FREE service, you will receive important messages via text messaging, voice, and email, depending on the services you select.
The City urges all residents and business owners to sign up for the new system by clicking the link below where you will be taken to a registration website for the Smart 911 interface.
As part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve its emergency preparedness and response capabilities, this system is designed to significantly enhance the City’s ability to communicate with residents, businesses, and visitors in the event of an emergency.
Smart 911 APP available as well
WATCH essentially means a chance this condition will happen and usually covers a large geographical area for a lengthy time period.
WARNING means the said weather is already occurring or is likely to occur and to take proper protective measures. Warnings are usually issued for much smaller geographical areas and usually for shorter more definite time periods.
ADVISORIES are sort of in between a WATCH and WARNING. The expected weather condition has a pretty good chance of occurring, even a likely chance of occurring, but typically an advisory is used for less severe type of weather conditions. A Wind Advisory might be issued or a Freezing Rain Advisory issued instead of a High Wind Warning or an ice Storm Warning.
With Smart911, individuals can link both homes and work addresses to mobile phones, which can be passed on to first responders for more a detailed, rapid response. Additional information such as whether there are any pets in the home, a list of any special needs, and additional emergency contacts can all be included in a Safety Profile. All information is optional, and the resident has the ability to choose what details they would like to include.
“The benefits of sharing this type of information during an emergency are immeasurable, Mobile phones do not provide an address to the 9-1-1 call taker. These emergency situations are often the worse of a person’s life, and the Safety Profile can speak for you when you might be unable.”
The Rave Alert system embraces contemporary communications modes in a feature-rich technology platform that tightly integrates alerts through any number of methods in real-time, including text, email, voice, RSS, social media, as well as interfaces to Federal Emergency Alert systems and ancillary support systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch and GIS. In addition, the system supports automatic translation to 48 languages so that recipients can be notified in their native language and offers in-depth reporting to analyze community engagement.
